Schonwald Bavaria Hand Painted Oval Pickle Dish Roses
Schonwald Bavaria Hand Painted Oval Pickle Dish Roses
Schonwald Bavaria Hand Painted Oval Pickle Dish Roses
This week I was lucky to acquire 40+ pieces of this lovely hand painted set. There are bowls, plates, platers, etc. All are signed by the artist L. McLaughlin (although some of them don't quite look like this name). The majority of the pieces carry Bavaria, Czech, Limoges, etc. marks. They are decorated with pale pink and medium pink rose-like flowers with detailed backgrounds. Below you will find a description of the piece and below that the story of these decorated pieces done by such groups as The Wednesday Evening Girls! I will be listing these pieces just as quickly as I can!

This pretty piece is, I believe, a Pickle Dish. It measures 11 3/4" long and is 5" wide. It is marked with the Schonwald Porcelain Factory "Eamag, Bavaria" mark that dates to 1911-1945. It is signed by the painter. It is in excellent condition with only some very minute wear to the gold edge.

From the arts and crafts movement in America. After 1900 through World War I Americans were fascinated with pottery manufacture and decoration. Groups, like the Saturday Evening Girls in Boston were started to make pottery and decorate it in the new Art Nouveau style. Similar groups started up through-out the country. Some made their own pottery and others concentrated on decorating blanks purchased from the major manufacturers in Europe and Japan. After the outbreak of World War I European blanks became hard to find and many more Japanese blanks were utilized. This piece is part of that decorating movement. It is a blank decorated by an American hobbyist.
